The concept for the book was inspired by a series of letters that were kept secret and only revealed upon Casablancas' death spanning over 55 years that Casablancas supposedly wrote to a woman that, at the tender age of sixteen, allegedly taught Casablancas many of the life lessons men learn or should learn over their lifetime, a woman apparently so central in his life that the novel reveals he kept in touch until he passed away in July 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As these letters are fantastical in nature, the stories in the book will leave the reader wondering where reality ends and fiction begins.
The book brings to life "Dragonfly", a secret society supposedly created during the hedonistic era of the 70's. Dragonfly Society's annual parties were decadent, mysterious affairs taking place in exotic locations where none of the guests knew the identity of the other.
